Giya Kancheli Tbilisi Youth Orchestra (TYO) is the leading young orchestral program in Georgia, running through the whole concert season in Tbilisi.
TYO was established at the National Palace in 2019 with the initiative of the Orchestra’s Manager, Mika Mdinaradze, and the Artistic Director, Mirian Khukhunaishvili, with the support of the Tbilisi Municipality.
Since its establishment, the orchestra has performed at least ten concerts in each season and hosted and participated in various festivals and competitions, including Tsinandali Festival 2024, The Young Euro Classic 2023 at the Berlin Konzerthaus, Toradze International Music Festival 2023 and 2024, the 30th-anniversary festival Autumn Tbilisi, and the first international competition named after Barouch (2019) in the Republic of San Marino.
With close creative relations with maestros such as Paavo Järvi, Gidon Kremer, Andrei Boreyko, Claudio Vandelli, George Tchitchinadze, Vakhtang Kakhidze, and Fuad Ibrahimov, the orchestra has refined and achieved a higher performance level.
TYO collaborated with outstanding young soloists and conductors, including Bruce Liu, Anastasia Kobenika, Giorgi Gigashvili, Veriko Tchumburidze, Stathis Karapanos, Kordz, Luka Okros, Sandro Gegechkori, Sandro Nebieridze, Kornilios Michailidis, Kakhi Solomnishvili, Dijana Imeri Ilkoska.
Since 2024, TYO will serve as the resident orchestra for the Toradze International Music Festival.
